Policyholder Information

Company Overview

American Western Life Insurance Company, domiciled in Utah, issued predominantly cancelable accident and health policies. The company’s administrative office was in San Mateo, Calif. At the end of 1996, the company also became the risk bearer for a block of accident and health business that was being administered by Professional Administrative Resources (PAR), a third-party administrator in Agoura Hills, Calif. All of the business administered by PAR was located in Arizona.

In June 1997, the company was declared insolvent. All contracts were immediately cancelled with the exception of the accident and health business being administered by PAR, which had a 30-day notice provision by Arizona law. By September 30, 1997, all those policies were cancelled as well.
